Home renovations in Cape Town
A renovation usually stays inside the existing walls: a kitchen, a bathroom, a tired living room, or damp and roof repairs that have to happen before the new finishes are worth doing.
Get Instant MatchWhat to say in the brief
Say whether any wall is structural, whether the roof is tile or sheet, and whether you are in a flat or a house. A Sea Point bathroom renovation is access, a stack and a body corporate. A Claremont kitchen is more often a house with a pitched roof and a side entrance. Those are different site visits.
Moving a kitchen into another room, or removing a wall between two rooms, often needs a plan or at least an engineer’s opinion. Replacing cabinets in the same position usually does not. Do not guess in the enquiry. Say what you want moved.
Sending the form on this page is free. It uses the same enquiry path as the rest of Cape Town Construction. A provider on the Lekker Network who covers this area and this kind of work may contact you. The price and the contract, if you hire someone, are between you and that provider. This site does not promise how quickly anyone replies.
What to put in the first message
Say which rooms change, whether a wall moves, and whether anyone will live in the house during the work. A kitchen that stays on the same plumbing is a different visit from one that moves to the other side of the house.
Questions
Do renovations in Cape Town need City approval?
Like-for-like finishes often do not. Structural changes and anything that changes the outside of the building often do. Confirm with the City of Cape Town for your erf.
Should waterproofing be part of the renovation?
If there is a stain, a failed balcony, or a valley that drips in winter, fix that before new cabinetry. Otherwise you pay twice.
Can I renovate a flat?
Yes, but the body corporate rules and the plumbing stack limit what a builder can change. Say it is a flat in the first sentence.
