Waterproofing in Cape Town
Cape Town’s rain falls mostly in winter, and the south-easter drives water sideways on the coast. A waterproofing enquiry should say where the water shows up, not only that a room feels damp.
Get Instant MatchCoast, flats and tiled roofs are different jobs
On the Atlantic Seaboard and in Hout Bay, Muizenberg and Strand, the usual failures are balcony screeds, parapets, flat roofs and steel that the salt has opened. Inland, in Durbanville and Claremont, the usual failures are concrete tiles, valleys, and damp low on a face-brick wall. A contractor who only coats balconies is the wrong person for a tiled valley, and the reverse is also true.
We publish separate pages only for places where that difference is clear. We skip suburbs where we would only be repeating the word waterproofing.
Sending the form on this page is free. It uses the same enquiry path as the rest of Cape Town Construction. A provider on the Lekker Network who covers this area and this kind of work may contact you. The price and the contract, if you hire someone, are between you and that provider. This site does not promise how quickly anyone replies.
What to put in the first message
Say where the water shows up: ceiling, balcony door, shower, or low on a wall. Say tile, sheet, or flat roof. Say whether it happens only in a north-wester or also in the south-easter. A photo of the stain is more useful than a product name.
Questions
Will a coat of paint stop a leak?
Not if the water is entering at a valley, a parapet, or a failed screed. Paint hides the stain until the next rain.
Should I enquire during the dry months?
You can. Say when you last saw the leak and what the weather was doing. Summer-only photos are still useful if you describe the winter path of the water.
Do you guarantee a number of years?
No. Any warranty is whatever the provider puts in their own quote. This site does not add one.
