Estates, Kenridge and the hill

Kenridge, Durbanville Hills and the estates along the northern side are house-and-garden stands. Many are in estates that want a drawing and a finish sample before a contractor starts. That rule sits on top of City of Cape Town approval when the work adds area or changes structure. Older houses toward Welgemoed and the Bellville side are more often face-brick with a concrete tile roof, where an extension has to marry into the existing tiles and the boundary is already tight.

Wind on the ridge lifts poorly fixed sheet roofs and drives rain under ridges. It is not the salt attack of the Atlantic Seaboard. If the house is high, say so. If it is an estate, name the estate. A builder who works Bellville shops on Voortrekker Road is not automatically the right person for a Durbanville Hills alteration.
