    Builders on the Atlantic Seaboard

The Atlantic Seaboard is a narrow, steep strip. Sea Point is blocks of flats. Camps Bay is houses on slopes. Hout Bay is a valley and a harbour. Treating them as one suburb produces bad briefs.

    Salt, wind and access

The south-easter and the salt air show up as failed balcony waterproofing, rusted steel, and paint that does not last. Deliveries on Victoria Road in Camps Bay, and into some Hout Bay streets, are constrained by slope and parking. A builder needs to know if materials must be carried up, and if a body corporate controls the hours.

We publish builder and waterproofing pages for Sea Point, Camps Bay and Hout Bay. We do not publish a new-build page. There is not a normal supply of empty suburban stands on this strip.

What to put in the first message

Say Sea Point, Camps Bay, Hout Bay, or the actual street’s suburb. Say flat or house, the floor if it is a flat, and whether the problem is salt, a balcony, or access for deliveries.

    Questions

    Is Green Point included?

You can name Green Point in an enquiry. It is closer to a Sea Point flat brief than to a Camps Bay house. We did not give it a thin duplicate page.

    Do body corporates allow renovation?

Many do, with rules on hours, waterproofing methods and rubble. The enquiry should say that the property is sectional title.

Is Hout Bay the Atlantic Seaboard?

It is usually searched with it, and it shares wind and salt, but the valley houses are not Sea Point flats. It has its own pages.
